Book review: How full is your bucket?

February 24, 2006

I picked up How Full is Your Bucket because the idea was mentioned in another book I read. It primarily outlines the theory of keeping people filled with good feelings as a key to productivity and happiness.

I'm not sure where this book fits in though; the theory is very self explanatory and guessable nearly via the title. There's a few supporting anecdotes and studies (which are at least clearly referenced in the back) in half of the book, and half is 5 techniques for "bucket filling."

It's a very quick read, so I recommend it, but it's only worth the $19.95 cover price if you can hand it off to a bunch of friends/co-workers to read as well. It never gets too detailed.

Should you fill people's buckets? Absolutely. This book does provide some simple things to remember. It's enlightening to analyze what you say/do and see whether it positively or negatively affects others. I've learned I'm not nearly as good as I want to be at being positive, some reasons why, and that for me was worth the price of admission.
