Daring Fireball has a well thought out take on the $1 per zune player that Microsoft will be paying Universal.
This deal makes me really want to organize a boycott of all things Universal. It's totally insane. Other deals that would be announced if all business followed this model.
"The NFL announced today that all TV manufacturers will be paying them $1 per TV set sold, since TVs are used to watch NFL games, and they deserve a cut of that revenue."
"The national photographer's association today annouced that all monitor companies would be paying them a $1 royalty per monitor sold, since monitors are used to display photographs. A deal with inkjet printer, paper, and ink manufacturers is soon to follow."
Totall bullcrap. Why won't these record companies just hurry up and finish going out of business? How is it fair that such a terribly run business, that actively works to attack, insult, threaten, sue, and otherwise intimidate their customers is allowed to stay in business?
