Hulu is great, but that doesn't mean old media "gets it"

Lyons writes about Hulu's success, boiling it down to "content is king".

Of course it is, and Hulu has great content, so it's successful. The question for me is, wouldn't it have been easier to just sign a contract with Google, hand over the tapes to them, and watch the money roll in? Why go build your own site?

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Hulu's interface, it's nice. But, as we already established, it's the content not the interface that keeps me returning. As long as you could get favorable terms by just hosting video on another site, building your own site from scratch sounds like a needless risk to me.
