Odd Design Oversights, #1

April 24, 2009

The power adapter for Apple notebook features 2 cables. The cable that goes to the wall is like any power cable, thick, features a good strain relief, and is removable so in the unlikely event it is damaged it can be replaced without replacing the whole brick.

The cable end that goes to the MagSafe adapter though, is skinny, made of a material that seems to lose it's malleability over time, and has lousy strain relief leading to wear and eventual failure. It's also not removable, so if it becomes frayed the entire brick must be replaced.

Why is one end of the connector so smart (MagSafe is awesome) and one so dumb?
